What about the artist is important? Place of origin? Occupation? Education? Sexual orientation? Politics? Or is it the often discussed artistic philosophy? But what if these are not the right questions? Certainly the artists who worked in the caves of Lascaux some 17,000 years ago wouldn’t have checked any of these boxes. Yet based on some kind of inner necessity, they turned out masterworks nevertheless. I’ll throw my hat in with them and let the images stand on their own.
